| The Decline |
| From the 12th and 13th centuries onward in the rest of Europe, after polychromatic mosaics and wall and vault glass and gold mosaics reached a “par excellence” pinnacle, mosaic went into a decline throughout the Middle Ages. Although some tiling patterns in Abbeys, for example, still used mosaic effects, the majority of the works became a copyists medium. After the Renaissance period, Mosaic techniques primarily became an alternative for making impressive copies of paintings. |
